The 9th Floor is back again with another fun playlist (available on Spotify, Apple Music and now Tidal) just in time for pumpkin spice season's colorful earth tones. Summer's coming to a close, so let's enjoy great music from our favorite artists. The playlist includes popular popstar powerhouses, homages from rappers and DJs, and some groovy psychedelic sounds of the alt-pop trio, Younger Hunger.
Enjoy every second of our list below. We selected a few favorites from the 9th Floor Playlist to complete your weekend kickback in the middle of the woods, or night on the back porch with a few brews and buddies. Music videos are included for some of the featured tracks.
Let us take you to the 9th Floor, where you can find great music for every occasion.
"Midnight Sky" - Miley Cyrus
Our favorite rambunctious starlet is back and better than ever. The groovy new single from Miley's seventh studio album, She Is Miley Cyrus, is all the necessary upbeat vibes to get over this unconventional summer of isolation.
"Shimmy (with Doja Cat)" - Lil Wayne
There are very few Lil Wayne tracks we don't appreciate at 9th Floor, so when this one dropped earlier this year, we were all in. This track borrows all the best parts of the late Ol' Dirty Bastard's "Shimmy Shimmy Ya" (1995) for a nice collaboration with rising bopper star, Doja Cat. We get why Weezy's thirteenth studio album is titled Funeral because he killed it once again.
"WAP (feat. Megan Thee Stallion)" - Cardi B
Unless you live underneath a rock on another planet, you experienced the record-breaking, unapologetic femme-forward banger sampling Frank Ski's "Whores in This House" (1993). Megan Thee Stallion has the recipe to create a summer hit. Now with Chef Cardi in the kitchen, these two queens serve up the catchiest taboos.
"Is It True (Four Tet Remix)" - Tame Impala
When Kevin Parker dropped his fourth studio album, The Slow Rush, we wasted no time embracing the smooth psychedelic sounds of Tame Impala. What happens if the genius behind the sickest remixes of artists like Aphex Twin, Radiohead, Lana Del Rey, and Black Sabbath gets ahold of Tame Impala? Once Kieran Hebden, better known as Four Tet, remixed a Tame track, the 9th Floor had no other choice but to include it in the mix.
"Let's Fall in Love for the Night (1964)" - FINNEAS
We gave little sis some love on last month's playlist. Now we want to focus on FINNEAS, the singer-songwriter behind some of the best musical collaborations with Billie Eilish. This lovely, new version of the single from his debut EP, Blood Harmony (2019), is a dreamy pop track with a whole Frank Sinatra mood.
"I'm Lost" - Elohim
She pulls inspiration from artists like Björk and Radiohead, but this talented Los Angeles star creates her own trippy lane of orchestral boppers and explorative electronic sound. If you really want to go down the rabbit hole, check out the song's music video, directed by Chase O'Black.
"Levitating (feat. Madonna and Missy Elliott) [The Blessed Madonna Remix]" - Dua Lipa
Originally a song from Dua Lipa's second studio album, this electro-funk, dance-pop gem is off the full-length remix album Club Future Nostalgia with DJ Blessed Madonna, formerly known as the Black Madonna. The collaboration with music royalty Madonna and Missy Elliott makes all the sense, seeing they frequently work with Stuart Price, who produced the original track.
"Azul Caribe" - Camo Columbo
Picture this. You're lounging on a Caribbean beach with a deliciously colorful cocktail in hand and bae at your side. Camo Columbo's soulful voice and dreamy guitar is the perfect companion for your tropical adventure's last summer days.
"Broken (feat. Samantha Leah)" - Ramaj Eroc
A frequent collaborator of 9th Floor artist, Slake Dransky, we had to put you onto this laidback flow from Chicago-native hip-hop artist Ramaj Eroc. His deep voice takes you on a journey from the midwest to the streets of Los Angeles in the best way. We are watching closely to what heights Ramaj takes us to next.
"You Don't Own Me (feat. Ariana Grande)" - Kristin Chenoweth
All hail the royalty that is Broadway superstar Kristin Chenoweth. Chenoweth's latest album, For the Girls, doesn't disappoint. This is evident in this cover of Lesley Gore's "You Don't Own Me" (1963) with our favorite superstar princess, Ariana Grande. The song is featured in one of Miss Ariana's favorite 90s movies, The First Wives Club, and she proves it with every high note and high ponytail swing.
"BLIND (feat. Young Thug)" - DaBaby
Dababy releases nothing but the hits. On the deluxe edition of Blame It On Baby, he teams up with Thugger for a new addition speaking on the rappers' lifestyles like Dababy's complete domination of the charts this year and Young Thug's quarantine life with the family. Grab the family, gold chains, and turn up speakers all the way up with this one.
"Pray 4 U" - Younger Hunger
Younger Hunger is one cool ass alt-pop trio. Tony Davia's dreamy vocals, Becket Edwards' synthesizing keys, and Lucas Connor's bass slaps are all the psychedelia feels necessary for a rock-out session in front of the mirror. Grab your hairbrush microphone and hit the stage, kid.
"About Her" - Phazz
We have to take you back a few years. French producer Phazz's "About Her" is what we need to set the tone for when we return to large warehouses filled with sweaty ravers, blaring speakers, and flashing lights. The easy transitions from tranquility to bass-heavy drops are necessary. If you can catch the sample from Miguel's "Sure Thing," we will give you extra brownie points.
"LA Who Am I To Love You (From the Audiobook 'Violet Bent Backwards Over The Grass') - Lana Del Rey
If you never stared at the rain against your window with Lana Del Rey's melancholic angel voice in the background, you haven't lived. Featured on past 9th Floor playlists, this time, we depart from her music to grace you with a track from the album version of her debut book Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass. It's a poetry collection featuring over thirty original poems and photography. Of course, she was going to put a musical touch to her literary premiere. Enjoy the musical accompaniment of the talented Jack Antonoff as Lana reads us into literal emotion.
Look out for more from 9th Floor Media!
